PRESS RELEASE - Chelsea Championships Commence!
The first heats for the Chelsea Florist and Chelsea Young Florist of the Year 2009 got off to a flying start at BFA Hub Meetings in November 2008, held at Savins Wholesalers in Sandy, Bedfordshire, and Scrutons Wholesalers in Leeds.
Each Hub heat attracted a good number of entrants to both categories. The heats were judged by members of the UK Floristry Judges Guild; Tracy Tomlinson in Leeds, and Isabel Wilton in Sandy. Tracy commented “it was exciting, intense and gave me great pleasure to award 4 places to the RHS Chelsea Flower show to the competitors who so deserved their winning places. The work from the Senior section was of a very high standard and it will be fantastic to see them in place, May 2009 at the most prestigious flower show in the world.”
The Hub heats task is to create a bridal design for the civil ceremony of an eminent fashion designer.
• A support for presentation of the design must be supplied.
The design will be removed from the support for judging purposes.
• Only the bridal design will be considered by the judge when awarding marks.
• Fresh flowers/ foliage must predominate.
• The judges will be looking for a high standard of composition and technique.
The design should be pre-made and brought along to the Hub meeting along with the application form available on the BFA website. The final at Chelsea is open to Entry by any florist working in or owning a retail florist shop, or who is a student or tutor at an approved floristry school or recognised college.
