PRESS RELEASE - World Skills UK Floristry Final - Tatton Park - 26th July 2009
The floristry UK final provides an opportunity for finalists to demonstrate their creative
and technical skills. Competitors are required to work with a previously unseen selection
of flowers, foliage and sundries.
On a rainy/muddy summers day towards the end of July, Stephen and myself set off from
London for Cheshire at 3am.
I was lucky enough to find myself as a finalist for the UK Skills Advanced Floristry competition which was held in the British Florist Association tent at the annual RHS Tatton Park show. I was invited to this competition after finishing in the top two advanced level floristry semi final competition for UK Skills that was held at the New Covent Garden Market in London.
For me this was a privilege and honour to be invited to such a prestigious event. During the day we were given the task of making four items in a set amount of time with a previously unseen selection of flowers. As a business we feel it is an important aspect of floristry where we can meet the best florists gain inspiration and challenge ourselves.
Of course this meant many days of practicing techniques that I was learning and developing on my course at Hadlow College. On the day I did very well, I finished in the top ten in the UK which is a great achievement for me and for the business.
